In March I was invited to perform for the second time at the Passauer Saiten Festival in the City of Passau in the south of Germany. Back in 2010 I had performed a solo concert in the festival and given some master-classes but this year the opportunity arose to bring some friends along and put on a chamber music recital of Celtic Music featuring the music of Scottish Composer, Eddie McGuire.
The concert included solo, duo, trio and quartet performances all centered around the festival's Celtic theme. Scottish, Irish and Welsh repertoire each performed by musicians of those nationalities was an added feature of the repertoire. I was joined onstage by Welsh Harpist Sharron Griffiths, Scottish Tenor Jamie MacDougall and Irish Flaustist Aisling Agnew.
The evening included many works by Eddie McGuire, his new settings of songs by Robert Burns, the Welsh Traditional songs Suo gan & Ar Hyd y nos and his Improvisations on Calderon. The festival invited Eddie as composer in residence and for around 15 days various pieces were being performed throughout the city culminating in our closing concert.
