This article is a collection of news stories and features from late last year rounding off some of the concerts and events that took place after my trip to Malaysia.
2006 ended with more international concerts for Matthew with ‘Maelasta’ giving a recital in The Academy of Music and Communication in Esbjerg – Denmark. Feargus and Matthew were performing for and coaching students interested in the Live Music Now! scheme which is setting up a base in Esbjerg at the conservatoire.
On the 21st of December Matthew performed as guest soloist in The Scottish Spina Bifida charity concert at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama. The concert was a huge success and sold out, Matthew donated £3 from every cd sold at the concert to the charity.
Thursday 25th of January saw Matthew’s first concert of 2007 with The Agnew & McAllister flute & guitar duo performing in The Scottish National Portrait Gallery’s After Hours’ concert series. The duo followed this concert on the 27th travelling to Belfast to perform an evening recital the Crescent Arts Centre.
Maelasta have also made a busy start to the year, Matthew & Feargus spent a morning with BMus students at Edinburgh University working on performance techniques. The popular violin & guitar duo also gave a performance on the 29th of January at St Michaels Parish Church Edinburgh.
Matthew will be teaching and performing at this years Dundee International Guitar Festival and his performance on the opening night of the festival will see the unveiling of a new project featuring Aisling Agnew, Feargus Hetherington and Douglas Whates. All four musicians have been performing and playing together for many years now but seldom in the form of a quartet. Sound clips and more info to follow soon!
Many new concerts have been confirmed for 2007, so to catch Matthew performing a solo guitar recital, as part of the violin and guitar combination ‘Maelasta’ or with Irish flautist Aisling Agnew in the Agnew & McAllister Duo.
