Last week I had the pleasure of giving my debut concert in Poland. My first concert took place in Czestochowa where I also gave a class at the University, a beautiful new building with great facilities.
After that I travelled to Katowice and was teaching at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice in an Erasmus exchange with the Polish Guitarist Marcin Dylla. The Royal Conservatoire here in Scotland has a good relationship with the Szymanowski Academy in Poland especially between the Guitar & Harp departments. I taught many students during the exchange, all the lessons were open to other students to attend in an open master-class style setting. I was very impressed by the overall level of preparation and talent on show at the Academy and the students had a great approach to learning and practice.
This exchange of teaching ideas and styles between Marcin and I opened with me giving a concert and closed with the local Professor Marcin Dylla also in concert. This was a nice way to present what was an intensive few days with the students in Katowice. Last November Marcin joined the staff and students here in Glasgow performing and teaching for the Big Guitar Weekend.
